Lucina Education shares the values of the European Union. These values mean a lot to us, and we are proud to work as a provider of educational opportunities as part of the Erasmus+ Programme. The Erasmus+ Programme is considered one of the greatest success stories of the European Union, and serves as a basis for what we at Lucina Education do. We think Ludwig van Beethoven’s Ode to Joy, which the EU has adopted for their official tune, is a great way to bring people together to unite with each other and to understand each other.
We especially value the life achievements of Lucina Hagman (1853-1946) in the turbulent times of Finnish history. During Lucina Hagman’s lifetime, Finland gained independence from Russia in 1917, witnessed a civil war in 1918 and fought against the Soviet army for six years in the Second World War (1939-1945) and managed to keep the country independent. Already in 1907, Finland chose the first 19 female representatives to the House of Parliament. Lucina Hagman was one of them. Read more about Lucina Hagman in section “About Us”.
The heart of Lucina Education beats for the value of safeguarding culture and especially intangible cultural heritage as listed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage! Finland has received two nominations on the list:
Out of these, especially the Kaustinen Fiddle Playing tradition is extremely close to our heart: we join the Kaustinen Folk Music Festival every July for a week, either in the work force or a visitor. Kaustinen is situated in the Kokkola Region, only about an hour away from Lucina Hagman’s birth town.
Lucina Education is also proud to be located in Oulu which has been chosen the European Capital of Culture in 2026. Read more about what the year will bring for both locals and visitors: oulu2026.eu/en/.
